Current application processing times

Our Contact Centre is closed as a result of New Zealand moving to Alert Level 4 at midnight Wednesday 25 March in response to the Covid-19 outbreak. We are still processing endorsement applications in line with our Service Level Agreements, but there may be delays with the production of endorsement cards.

To help minimise delays, please ensure you submit your application as early as possible. Standard applications (more likely to be processed without delay) are those where the following are met:

  • Application completed correctly
  • All required documents are attached
  • No fit and proper check issues
  • No prior Transport Agency concerns related to driving.

Check the table to see how long it will take us to process your application.

When you log in to track your P, V, I or O application, you might see one of these statuses:

Received

We’ve got your application, but we haven’t started working on it yet.

Gathering information

We’re waiting for something.

For example, this could be vetting information from the NZ Police, further information from a foreign country, or reviewing your medical certificate.

Processing

We’ve got all the information we need, and we’re now assessing your application.

Completed

We’ve finished processing your application.

  • If we grant your application, we’ll send you your new photo driver licence (and ID card if relevant) within 7-10 days.

  • If we decline your application, we’ll send you a letter explaining why, and what you can do.
