Over the weekend of 15–17 November 2019, the Green Light Hackathon brought together more than 100 people who were passionate about making a difference to the way New Zealanders are impacted by disruptions on our roads.
Overall winners ‘Journey Mate’ pitched features to be added to the AT Mobile app which focused on the emotional experience and resolution of disruptions.
Disruptions to buses, trains and ferries still catch us by surprise, and can leave us stranded, frustrated, and disconnected. Whether it’s a sporting event, a weather bomb, or a crash on the network, we still need to get where we want to go. How might we reimagine the public transport experience in the face of planned and unplanned disruptions?
Hosted by the NZ Transport Agency and Auckland Transport, Green Light Hackathon 2019 is a collaborative event bringing New Zealanders together to solve problems. Over 48 hours, 120 problem solvers, creatives, developers, analysts, behavioural experts, designers and people who want to make a difference will come together to generate new ways to improve the public transport experience.
Teams had their hands on the latest technology, insights and data from Auckland Transport, NZ Transport Agency and our partners.
Alongside transport data at their fingertips, the event included local and international suppliers bringing the latest technology and insights to help teams bring solutions to life.
After working all weekend, teams presented their concepts and prototypes to the judging panel:
- Patrick Reynolds, Board member, NZ Transport Agency
- Rua Pani, ATOC Group Manager, Auckland Transport
- Sonya Crosby, Head of Innovation, BNZ
- Claire Neville, General Manager of Operations, NZ Business
- Vanessa Ellis, Executive General Manager of Customer Experience, Auckland Transport
First, second and third place prizes were awarded, but the real prize is in the opportunity to connect with other innovators and create an impact on how New Zealanders combat and adapt to disruptions on our public transport network.
