What we know

We’ve talked to the community, council, local businesses and others about making the highway on the north side of West Melton safer. We’ve heard that speeds in this area feel too high to be safe.

There have been 14 crashes in the ten year period between 2009-2018, one of them causing injury.

Reducing the speed limit as proposed would increase travel times by approximately 8 seconds.

What we’re proposing

Location Current speed limit Proposed new speed limit
Existing 70km/h area (0.97km) from 500m east of Weedons Ross Road to 470m west of Weedons Ross Road. 70km/h  60km/h

There are a number of safety concerns about the speed vehicles are travelling in this growing township. The main ones relate to vehicles and pedestrians crossing SH73 and cyclists using the highway.
