Palmerston North Play Streets

Play Streets in Palmerston North will be one of their flagship case study activations, in partnership with Sports NZ. Credit: ??

Palmerston North is working on several innovations to advance safer streets and to enable a more active community.

It fits into their broader strategy of building a more active community, which includes:

  • development of a Play Policy  that outlines Council’s commitment to provide a range of play oppotunities for different age groups
  • everyone can access opportunities in order to be more active
  • a ‘bigger picture’ approach is taken for sport and acitve recreation opportunities that recognises the value of both formal/organised sport as well as informal, casual recreation opportunities.

Their Placemaking plan aims to provide advice, advocacy, and seed funding for people wanting to lead public space projects, including:

  • Neighbourhoods wanting to make their street more socially connected and people friendly.
