The high-level roadmap below suggests stages each Innovating Streets project might be expected to follow, along with potential activity within each stage.
This suggested roadmap is provided to help teams understand the activity that might be needed to deliver a successful Innovating Streets project, and the range of skills required.
|1. Initiate||Develop a strategic plan for the project including problem definition, vision statement, design principles, goals, risks, a communication and engagement strategy and an overall programme, to guide everyone involved through the process.|
|2. Investigate||Analyse the site, context and place the project is situated in and establish how it fits within any strategic objectives that have been developed by the community and/or council.|
|3. Design||Develop a long-term concept for a street space and then ‘backcast’ to create a design for a temporary installation that tests a range of key features and qualities.|
|4. Implement||Construct, staff and then deconstruct the temporary installation.|
|5. Monitor/evaluate||Make observations during the temporary event using a range of techniques including interviews, filming, tracking pedestrian paths and numbers, and on-site observations etc.|
|6. Document||Document learnings of the project for others to learn from and confirm if the project will be taken through to a more permanent installation or be completed here.|
