Large traffic signs represent a significant roadside hazard. To mitigate the risks associated with these necessary roadside objects, the NZ Transport Agency has developed the following technical advice in consultation with industry in relation to the selection, installation and maintenance of passively safe (or frangible) traffic sign supports. All traffic sign support systems must be accepted by the Transport Agency for use on state highways.

The following technical information is available:

Installation of slip base sign fixings (TM2006) December 2011

Technical memorandum TM2006: Installation of slip base sign fixings, provides advice on the required practice for installation of slip base sign fixings to ensure safe operation and compliance with NZ Transport Agency P24 specification and RMSA Compliance standard for traffic signs (2008).
