SH16 Joyce Adams Place

We’re upgrading the crossing surface to make it smoother and more hardwearing, and installing warning lights and bells, barrier arms and improved signage to give people early warning of the crossing.

SH16 Kaukapakapa

We’re installing ‘pedestrian mazes’ to make it safer for walkers, upgrading warning lights and bells, installing barrier arms and better signage to give people early warning of the railway crossing, and installing concrete slabs and drainage to improve the crossing surface for a smoother drive over the crossing and reduce the risk of loss of control crashes.

West Coast Road

We’re installing lights and bells to warn drivers when a train is coming, barrier arms, better signage to give people early warning of the railway crossing, and installing concrete slabs to improve the crossing surface. We’re also widening the approach to the crossing and adding a new sign with flashing lights for westbound traffic to give people advance warning of the crossing.

SH29 Hinuera

We’re installing rubber panels around the rail tracks to make them easier to walk or drive across, and improving signage and markings to warn drivers that they are approaching a level crossing.

SH1 Tregoweth Lane, Huntly

We’re installing new signs and markings as a simple but effective way to warn drivers that they’re approaching a level crossing, and upgrading the traffic island on the west side of the crossing on the state highway.

We’re installing new signs and markings as a simple but effective way to warn drivers that they’re approaching a level crossing.

SH27 Waitoa

We’re making the Waitoa level crossing safer by:

  • installing half-arm barriers to stop drivers crossing when a train is coming.
  • adding clearer signs and road markings to give people early warning of the rail crossing.
  • replacing the lights and bells to warn drivers that a train is coming.
  • improving visibility of the rail crossing by removing and trimming vegetation.

SH27 Pohlen Road

We’re adding clearer signs and road markings to give people early warning of the rail crossing. We’re also making the crossing safer by:

  • widening the northbound shoulder on SH27 to make it safer to turn right
  • widening the crossing area to provide bays for longer vehicles.

SH27 Waharoa Road

We’re adding clearer signs and road markings to give people early warning of the rail crossing. We’re also making the crossing safer by:

  • adding a train-activated advance warning sign ‘Prepare to stop’ to give cars an early warning that a train is approaching
  • improving visibility of the crossing by removing vegetation.

SH24 Broadway, Matamata

We’re making the SH24 Broadway level crossing safer by:

  • improving the crossing surface to make it easier to driver over.
  • installing pedestrian mazes with automatic gates to stop people from walking onto the tracks when a train is coming.
  • improving the pedestrian rail crossing surface to make it easier to walk over.
  • installing flashing bells and lights to warn pedestrians that a train is coming. Existing half-arm barriers and flashing lights/bells remain for cars.
  • adding clearer signs and road markings to give people early warning of the rail crossing.

SH26 Piako Road 

We’re making the Piako Road level crossing safer by:

  • installing half-arm barriers to stop drivers crossing when a train is coming.
  • improving traffic islands at the intersection along with some road widening so it easier and safer to turn.
  • adding a ‘prepare to stop’ warning sign and upgrading the flashing lights and bells as well as road markings to give drivers early warning that a train is coming.

SH79 Rangitata

We’re installing warning lights and bells and improving the track surface and replacing tracks.

We’re now planning further improvements, which will include improving signs and markings, widening a section of road shoulder near the crossing.

SH1 Kirk Road

We’re replacing the railway tracks and renewing the road surface to make it smoother and safer to drive across, installing new barrier arms and better signage, and upgrading the existing pedestrian crossing.
